Ask questions and be sure you choose the right company for you. Here is a checklist to help:
- Make sure all costs are included in each bid (materials, labor, finishing, delivery and installation).
- Find out the project time frame (from the time you order through installation of countertops) and get it in writing.
- Find out if the company is just a storefront and pay a visit to their manufacturing facility. See for yourself how that company builds their cabinetry. Do they use quality materials? Are pre-fabricated cabinets stored in a warehouse where they can become warped and the joinery separated?
- Are the cabinet pieces going to be finished individually in the factory or in your home where stain may get applied unevenly and will get into the air?
- Find out about their customer service practices. Do you have one project manager to assist you through the entire process or will you have an 800-number and no contact person?
- Ask for contractor’s license information and current proof of insurance. Check the State Contractors License Board and the Better Business Bureau. Get to know who you are welcoming into your home!
